Wayne County Choral Union Information for Members
The Wayne County Choral Union, Inc., an adult non-profit organization, is dedicated to the performance of varied,, mixed-voice music for the education and enjoyment of its members and the community.
The WCCU is open to all adult singers, 18 years or older, who are interested in performing mixed-part choral music. The choral year is divided into two sessions, Spring and Fall. All singers must register during the first three weeks of each session and new members are welcome to attend a rehearsal before joining. There are no auditions.
Registration after the first three weeks of rehearsal is allowed only with approval of the Musical Director. Notice of the wish to register late must be received before the end of the registration period by contacting the Choral Union at 330-249-1808 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The participation fee is $30 per member per session. If you are unable to pay the full amount at the time of registration, other arrangements can be made by contacting the treasurer (Roy Haynes) or the membership chair (Vickie Shaffer).
Refunds of participation fees paid during the first three weeks of each session may be made in full during that period, but only after the music has been returned. Half refunds may be made between three and six weeks after the registration period begins, again after music has been returned. No refunds will be made thereafter.
We rehearse weekly, on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Wooster United Methodist Church, 243 N. Market St., Wooster, or at a published alternate site when necessary. Announcements re changes in rehearsal venues will be distributed via email and via the recorded message at the Choral Union phone number (330-249-1808).
Cancellations due to inclement weather or other emergencies are announced via WQKT (104.5FM) and email distribution. The decision to cancel a rehearsal is based on road conditions late in the afternoon of a scheduled rehearsal day. An email will be sent out in the late afternoon confirming whether or not rehearsal will be held. You can also call the Choral Union phone number (330-249-1808) between 5:30 and 6:30 to check whether a rehearsal has been cancelled. If you get the standard message (Thanks for calling the Wayne County Choral Union, etc.), it means that rehearsal will be held.
Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and to study the music between rehearsals so that our time together is productive. Please mark your attendance on the sign-in sheets provided at each rehearsal. If you expect to be absent from several rehearsals in a row, please let us know by sending an email to email@example.com or leaving a voice message at (330) 249-1808.
In case members have questions outside of rehearsal concerning the music, please contact your section leader.
Please refrain from conversation and using cell phones during rehearsals. When your section is not rehearsing, please be silent so you don’t disturb those who are concentrating on learning their music.
Please don’t wear perfume, cologne, or aftershave lotion to rehearsals as a member seated near you may be allergic to it.
All music is the property of the WCCU. Members are assigned to a numbered folder containing the music for a session after paying the participation fee.
Music must be returned after each session.
Members may be billed for music not returned within one month of the end of a session at a price to be determined by the board.
Members are contacted between rehearsals through email distribution lists, our website (wayne choralunion.org), our Facebook page, and phone calls when necessary.
Each session concludes with a public performance. Other performances may be scheduled if time permits, sufficient members are available, and if the event meets the purpose of the organization. Performances are scheduled by the Board.
Some performances may require formal attire which is:
Men: White long-sleeved shirt, black slacks, plain dark tie, black shoes and black socks.
Women: White, collared, long-sleeved blouse, black pants or long skirt, black shoes.
Attire for performances which do not require formal attire will be determined by the Costume Committee with the approval of the Board and will vary depending on the theme of the performance and conditions of the venue such as indoors or outdoors in cold or warm weather.
You will be given several weeks’ notice of the costume requirements for each performance so that you have time to organize the clothing you will need.
Please avoid perfume, cologne, or aftershave lotion during performances as well as rehearsals and don’t wear large or dangling jewelry (rings and wristwatches are OK).
Special performance attire such as scarves, hats, etc. may be required for some performances and will usually be provided by the Choral Union.
